On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

Taken together, these modules provide a coherent set of advanced generic learning experiences that broaden students’ intellectual and professional horizons, reinforce transferable capabilities, and enhance the relevance of the individual programmes to contemporary postgraduate education.

Capstone Project (24 CREDITS) Subject to Approval
 

The Capstone Project is designed to provide students with an extended opportunity to synthesise and apply the knowledge, concepts and skills developed through both their discipline-specific studies and the CGMs. In pedagogical terms, the Capstone Project will incorporate a range of non-lecture learning activities, such as e-learning tasks, seminars, site visits, field trips, practice-based exploration and other supervised experiential or enquiry-based activities. Emphasis is placed on integration, independent inquiry, application, critical reflection and the production of work that demonstrates advanced learning achievement.

- Two-week of Hong Kong Field Trip
- All taught modules are delivered face-to-face at the HKU Main Campus or at HKU SPACE campuses  

Graduates  will be well positioned to pursue roles in English-medium and international workplaces across Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, and Chinese Mainland. With practical training in professional English communication, cross-cultural collaboration, and workplace-focused language skills, graduates can contribute confidently in multinational companies, regional headquarters, global-facing Chinese enterprises, and other organisations where English is a key working language. This qualification supports career pathways in areas such as business operations, corporate communications, customer and client management, project coordination, and other professional roles that require effective English use in global contexts.

While the primary goal is immediate job readiness, the programme also serves as a springboard for further academic and professional pursuits. Graduates will be well-prepared to articulate into a range of advanced qualifications, including:

• Master’s degrees in Applied Linguistics, English Language Studies, English Language Teaching, Business Administration (MBA/EMBA), and related fields;
• Internationally recognised teaching qualifications, including:
  • Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) – Trinity College London
  • Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)– University of Cambridge

Applicants shall hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognised institution. If the degree or equivalent qualification is from an institution where the language of teaching and assessment is not English,applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as:

i.     an overall band of 6.0 or above with no subtests lower than 5.5 in the IELTS; or

ii.          a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL, or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL, or    a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or

iii.   HKALE Use of English at Grade E or above; or

iv.   HKDSE Examination English Language at Level 3 or above; or

v.    equivalent qualifications.

Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on individual merit and may be required to take an additional English proficiency test on request.
