The Hong Kong Qualifications Framework

The Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF), introduced in 2008, is a system set up by the Government to rationalise and recognise academic and vocational qualifications. The QF consists of seven academic levels covering qualifications that range from certificates to doctorates. The Qualifications Register (QR) is a centralised online database which contains all qualifications that have been quality assured under the QF. The vast majority of part-time award-bearing programmes offered by the three colleges of HKU SPACE are on the QR. The validity period for programmes at all levels is on-going. A Comparability Study of the Hong Kong QF and the European QF suggests that the programmes recognised under the Hong Kong QF can be situated at a comparable level of the European QF and vice versa. For details, please refer to the leaflet.

Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CATS)

The HKSAR Government has introduced a set of guidelines for Credit Accumulation and Transfer ( https://www.hkqf.gov.hk/en/KeyFeatures/cat/index.html ). These set out principles and good practice that the School fully welcomes and agrees with. The School has now established its own CATs operational guidelines for part-time programmes. Students may approach the  programme teams before the commencement of programmes if they intend to apply for module exemption.

Non-Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance

Courses offered by the School in collaboration with overseas universities and bearing their awards are of high quality and have the same recognition as the equivalent on-campus courses. These courses are exempted from registration under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance (NLHPEOrdinance). It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which these courses may lead.
