Highlights

Advanced Diploma in Business Information Technology programme is a 20-month part-time programme designed for secondary school graduates who have aspirations to pursue a career in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) field. This programme offers a unique blend of theory and practical training. Students will learn about the latest technologies and trends and how to apply them in real-world business scenarios.

The programme aims to equip students with a broad and solid grounding in the field of information technology and to enhance students’ technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. The development and application of some emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Applications and Analytics, and Cloud Computing will also be covered in the programme.

Introduction

The use of information technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing (CC), Big Data Analytics, etc., is rapidly redefining business development. Many business leaders pay extra attention to the implications of these key technologies and explore realistic scenarios of these technological implications. Advanced Diploma in Business and Information Technology emphasizes the use of computing in a business context. It aims to prepare students with effective and practical business-orientated IT skills to fulfill the coming technology workforce demand from society.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  • Use information technology to manage information and computer systems;
  • Design and implement technology applications by integrating knowledge and skills of computer programming, networking and database;
  • Apply computational techniques to evaluate and solve technological problems in business operations;
  • Discuss the importance and value of the technology-driven business ecosystem through the application of emerging technologies;
  • Communicate ideas effectively by using English languages in social and academic contexts.

Students will generally take 20 to 24 months to complete the programme if they are able to follow the study plan proposed by the programme team. However, if students are not able to complete the programme within 20 to 24 months due to work or other commitments, they can discuss with programme team to extend the study period to 4 years at most.

Module Exemption

Holders of a Certificate in Business Information Technology offered via HKU SPACE may be eligible for course exemption of the "Cloud Computing for Business". Other applicants may also receive module exemptions depending on the applicant's academic qualification.

Empowering Job-Seeking Opportunities in IT Industry

Most of the graduates could get an IT job in computer programming or technical support. They can also get promoted or change to a better job position after graduating from this programme. Also, to become information security professionals, students are required to obtain skills in computer programming and computer networking, as these two core blocks serve as the foundation for tackling computer security risk problems.

Further Study Opportunity

Graduates are eligible for applying Year 2 direct entry for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Computer Networks and Security programme and BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Cyber Security)
