The interactions between Hong Kong and Mainland China have indeed become increasingly frequent, especially following the launch of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area initiative by The State Council of PRC in February 2019. This initiative aims to foster deeper integration and connectivity within the region, which boasts a population of over 86 million people and a regional GDP exceeding $1.9 trillion, making it comparable to the ninth or tenth largest economy in the world. 

In the realm of education, this cooperation has led to significant advancements, enriching the educational landscape. In response to these changes, HKU SPACE established the Mainland Affairs Office (the “MAO”). The MAO is dedicated to strengthening close exchanges and cooperation between HKU SPACE, including its three Colleges, affiliated Community Colleges and International College, and various institutions, enterprises, and individuals in Mainland China. Its goals include enhancing skill development, promoting lifelong learning, and encouraging continuous growth and progress. Additionally, the MAO aims to further promote the development of academic research, knowledge transfer, and industrialization in the region.
