The Launch Ceremony of the 60th Anniversary Alumni Book was held at the HKU SPACE United Learning Centre in Admiralty on 28 August 2017. Interviewees, guests and media attended the ceremony: one of the major celebrations of the 60th Anniversary.

The ceremony was officiated by Prof Edward Chen, Chairman of the Board of HKU SPACE, Prof William Lee, Director of the HKU SPACE, Prof Enoch Young, Chairman of the Alumni Book Steering Committee, and Dr Lee G Lam, President of HKU SPACE Alumni Council. 

In his welcoming speech, Prof Chen thanked Dr Peter Lee for initiating the earlier 50^th anniversary book, “HKU SPACE and Its Alumni - The First Fifty Years”. The new 60th Anniversary Alumni Book features 60 outstanding alumni who share their lifelong journeys of learning. Their thought-provoking stories demonstrate the importance of continuing education and its impact on lives and society.

Prof Enoch Young said that a book like this cannot happen overnight, and that the wheels started turning two years ago. In addition to the 60 interviews, the book also features major milestones of the School as well as key areas in which the School has been a pioneer, and major developments the School has achieved in the past six decades, plus the many new programmes and courses that have been created to meet the changing demands of society.

Dr Lee G Lam added that alumni are a very important pillar of the School. With just 330 students in its first year, HKU SPACE has now achieved 2.6 million course enrollments. He pointed out that In our modern knowledge economy, continuing education is essential in helping people grasp opportunities in our ever-changing society,  and alumni can play a vitally supportive role.

Ms Esther Wong, Dr Edmond Cheng, Mr Ken Lo and Mr Tim Lau, who were interviewed in the book, shared their compelling stories in the ceremony to rounds of appreciative applause.
