A topic on “Sustainable Urban Living: Ride Hailing Taxi Services in Hong Kong” was organised by the Centre of Logistics and Transport during lunch time on 27 March 2025. On 3 March 2025, Hong Kong Government unveiled five new taxi fleets in Hong Kong, set to revolutionise taxi services through providing online hailing service.

Three speakers from the University of Hong Kong, SynCab and Big Boss Taxi Company Limited spoke on the challenges in meeting commuter demand on ride hailing taxi service.

Dr Jintao Ke, Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering, HKU introduced on the large-scale simulation platform for managing and controlling Hong Kong taxis. The simulation platform can be used to simulate the movements and trajectories of taxis to idle cruising, picking up passengers and delivering passengers on a large-scale transportation network. The goal of this simulation platform is to help taxi operators and government to better manage and operate taxis and ride hailing services.

Two premium taxi fleet operators will benefit from the model. SynCab is one of the earliest taxi companies that has a fleet management system and Ms. Sonia Cheng, Executive Director of SynCab said that the company is ready to give Hong Kong a better taxi service.

Mr Alex Chiu, Chief Operations Officer of Big Boss Taxi Company Limited, is targeting the premium service sector. It provides premium taxi services which is time responsive and personalised. The Company’s logo  ‘As Good As You Wish’  向「你」想出發 reflects the key service concept.

Professor Dorothy Chan, Head of the Centre thanked the speakers and also Ms Miriam Lau, advisor to Women in the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and former Legislative Councilor for chairing the session. The Centre will continue to explore interesting topics and to encourage professional exchanges.
