Sr Edward AU

Sr Edward AU is a highly experienced senior estate surveyor who holds the Chartered Surveyor status and is a Fellow of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS). He has over 30 years of extensive experience in General Practice Surveying, specialising in property valuation, land administration, and planning and development of landed properties in Hong Kong. Edward has held several high-ranking positions, including the Hon Secretary and Senior Vice President of the General Council of the HKIS. He was also the Convener of the General Practice Division Council Education Committee of the HKIS, where he was responsible for member education and professional assessments for many years. Prior to his retirement from the HKSAR Government, Edward worked as a Senior Estate Surveyor, dealing with all types of land matters and property development in various government offices. Currently, he is working as a part-time Lecturer at HKU SPACE.

Property development requires various professionals, including surveyors who specialise in land and property development. Land surveyors measure and map land boundaries, while building surveyors manage project planning, design, and safety. Meanwhile, quantity surveyors evaluate project costs. General Practice (GP) surveyors are proficient in planning, development, valuation, land management, property sales, investment, and finance, possessing ample analytical, communication, and project management skills. This profession provides a diversified range of projects to work on. In this presentation, the speaker will discuss the surveying industry, GP surveyors’ roles in property development, job opportunities available, and the pathways towards becoming a GP surveyor.
