Highlights

Do you wish to uncover the secrets of wine making in Bordeaux, the capital of wine civilization?

This Bordeaux study tour will visit around 10 well-known and carefully selected vineyards in Bordeaux, and students will be led and guided by our HKU SPACE wine educator for the whole study tour. In Hong Kong, students will attend a 3-hour pre-departure lecture in order to have an overview of the Bordeaux wine region, and they will also attend two half-day Master classes at the prestigious KEDGE Wine School in Bordeaux, and the lectures will be delivered by the Master of Wine!

 

Key Features:

  1. Two half-day wine classes and tastings at KEDGE Wine School by one of the 417 Master of Wine worldwide  (with KEDGE Wine School Statement of Attendance)
  2. Instruction by HKU SPACE wine educator, Ms Susanna Poon, in both Hong Kong and Bordeaux 
  3. Guided visit to around 10 vineyards in various Bordeaux sub-region 
  4. Food-wine pairings at different restaurants, including some restaurants on-site of vineyards 
  5. Visit the wine museum in Bordeaux: La Cite du Vin (entrance fee included)

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  1. Develop an in-depth understanding of the Bordeaux wine region (both Left and Right Banks), including its geographical, historical, and cultural significance.
  2. Gain knowledge about the various grape varieties grown in Bordeaux and the specific winemaking techniques employed in the region.
  3. Acquire the ability to critically evaluate and analyze Bordeaux wines, including their aroma, taste, and aging potential.
  4. Explore the concept of terroir and its influence on the characteristics and quality of Bordeaux wines.
  5. Engage with local winemakers and industry experts to learn about their experiences, challenges, and successes in producing Bordeaux wines.
  6. Cultivate an appreciation for the cultural and gastronomic aspects of Bordeaux, including its rich history and local cuisine through food and wine pairings.

Programme Details

This study tour consists of two parts:

(1) Pre-tour workshop (3 hours) : 20 May 7-10pm 

  • Study tour briefing 

  • Overview of Bordeaux region (Left bank, Right bank and Sauternes) 

  • Wine tastings  

(2) 6 days of tailor-made wine study tour in Bordeaux: 9 to 15 June, 2024 

  • Wine classes at KEDGE Wine School by Master of Wine 

  • Vineyard visits accompanied by HKU SPACE wine educator 

  • French gourmet appreciation and food-wine pairing

Two half-day wine classes and tastings at KEDGE Wine School by Master of Wine

  • KEDGE Wine School is under the KEDGE Business School, which is one of only 1% of Business Schools in the world to hold the Triple Crown (AMBA, EQUIS & AACSB). Its research center supports transformation taking place in the Food, Wine, Spirits , Catering, Hospitality and Tourism sectors.

  • KEDGE Wine School particularly emphasized activities in the field of wine, spirits, sommelier and hospitality and it has different campuses in Bordeaux, Paris and Marseille. They offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in wines and spirits, namely MSc Wine & Spirits Management; MSc Wine & Hospitality Management; Bachelor with Wine Specialization. They also have sommelier school to train industry practitioners.

OUR WINE INSTRUCTORS

HKU SPACE Wine Educator, Ms. Susanna Poon, will conduct 3-hour pre-tour class in Hong Kong and accompany the group during the 6-day study tour in Bordeaux.  Master of Wine from KEDGE Wine School, Mr. Colin Gent, will teach 2 half-day classes in Bordeaux.

  • International exposure in wine industry from London to Bordeaux via Napa Valley, Paris, Provence and Tokyo
  • Provide sourcing, sales and marketing consultancy services to importers and exporters, as well as offering high-end wine education and wine tourism

  • The aforementioned tuition fees are based on twin room accommodation. A single room surcharge is applicable.
  • Unless there are extenuating circumstances determined by the college, such as insufficient enrollment or unforeseen emergencies beyond the control of the college resulting in course cancellation, all fees paid are non-refundable.

  • Applicants shall be aged at least 18 years or above, and should not have any health problems that make them unfit for wine tasting
  • Good English proficiency especially in reading and listening
  • Some prior wine knowledge is preferred

Enrolment Method
Payment Method
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
