Highlights

The Weekend Law School will be taught by practicing lawyers which provides a gentle yet practical introduction to law for secondary school students, through classes in important law subjects, such as contracts, torts, and company law, visits to courts, discussions of possible law career and study pathways abroad and locally. As stated in the title, the Weekend Law School aims to train the secondary school students in advance to think, write and speak like a lawyer and guide them on the difficult decision of a study/career pathway in law that will provide students with an unbeatable advantage in their studies and future careers.

Programme Details

This course is model upon our popular summer school law course for secondary school students and is designed to replicate the successful elements of that course into 30 hours, weekend-based face-to-face course for secondary school students, taught by experienced lawyers.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO STUDENTS:  

  • The availability of the class will be depended on student enrollment. Early registration on a first-come-first served basis is appreciated. 
  • Statement of Attendance” will be issued within three months of the end of the course to participants achieving at least 70% of class attendance.
  • Detailed timetables showing venues for each module you have enrolled on will be sent out one week before the start of that course.  If you do not receive a timetable three days before the course starts, please e-mail studylaw@hkuspace.hku.hk or telephone 25204665.  
  • The School reserves the right to change the time and place of meetings and to change the Tutor / Lecturer / Teacher, without prior notice.
  • Course fees paid are not refundable or transferable.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should be aged 15 or above and are subject to approval by the School (including providing parental consent).  There are no specific entry requirements but, given the language of instruction, students should have competence in English language.

Enrolment Method

Applicants shall

a) complete the enrolment form(and submit the ‘ Parent/Guardian Consent Form ' if  applicants who are below age 18) , and  enroll in the course(s)

(i) at the Enrolment Centres of HKU SPACE (please refer to the ‘Learning / Enrolment Centres’ section) by Cash or by WeChat Pay, Alipay, EPS, Visa /Mastercard or Cheque/Bank Draft;

OR

(ii) Cheque/Bank draft should be made payable to ‘HKU SPACE’ with applicant’s name and course(s) applied written on the back. 

A photo of the applicant (in plain colour background, 45mm(W) x 55mm(H)) is also required.

b) apply through the School’s online enrolment system and pay by credit card or PPS or WeChat Pay, Online Alipay and Faster Payment System (FPS) .

All applicants who are below age 18 MUST complete and submit the ‘Parent/Guardian Consent Form' together with the Enrolment Form.

 

Payment Method

Online payment

HKU SPACE provides online service for students to make enrolment for single module (courses enrolled on first-come, first-served basis) via the Internet.  Course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, continuing students of award-bearing programmes, if their programmes offer online service, may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay and Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

In Person

Course fees can be paid in Cash or by WeChat Pay, Alipay, EPS, Visa /Mastercard or Cheque/Bank Draft made payable to "HKU SPACE" at any of HKUSPACE Enrolment Counters by completing the enclosed application for enrolment form (Ref: SF26-COML9115).  (hkuspace.hku.hk/learning-centre, Centre Hotline: (852) 3761-1111)

Notes

  1. If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolement Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circustance.
  2. Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder's credit card account.
  3. In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  4. For general and short courses, applicants may be required to pay the course fee in cash or by EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only), Visa or Mastercard if the course is to start shortly.  Fees paid are not refundable or transferable.
  5. Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  6. For additional copies of receipts, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with a completed form and a crossed cheque for $30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE". Such copies will normally only be issued at the end of a course.
