Chinese Medicine Acupuncture and Tui-Na
This course has been included in the list of Pre-approved Training Courses under the Chinese Medicine Development Fund. The maximum level of subsidy is 90% of the course fee (up to 60,000 HKD) for the eligible applicants with the approval from the Chinese Medicine Development Fund and successful completion of the course.

Highlights
This programme consists of two parts. Each part consists of one module. Students who have completed one module of Part 1 can choose to exit the programme. Completion of one module will lead to a Certificate in Acupuncture. Upon successful completion of Part 1 and Part 2, students will be awarded a Diploma in Clinical Acupuncture.
The development of a universal or standard system of acupuncture nomenclature under the auspices of the W.H.O. has facilitated the interationalization of acupuncture practice. Increasingly, many western medical practitioners worldwide have adopted acupuncture as an adjunct to their primary therapeutic modality based on the western medical paradigm.
In line with this development, formal acupuncture education at the undergraduate and graduate levels has been established in universities. Acupuncture has now matured to acquire a proper position in healthcare professions, with a set of defined technical terminologies and well-establised standard of practice.

Aims
Part 1: Basic Acupuncture
Nowadays acupuncture has become increasingly accepted in modern medical practice. There is growing interest among practitioners of western medicine, in many parts of the world, to pursue better understanding and reserach in the field of acupuncture. The purpose of this course is to provide an opportunity for western-trained medical practitioners and professionals interested in acupuncture to acquire the knowledge of acupuncture. It will form a foundation for subsequent studies for Part 2: Advanced Clinical Acupuncture.
Part 2: Advanced Clinical Acupuncture
This course is a continuation of Part 1: Basic Acupuncture. It enables participants to pursue a comprehensive study on clinical aspects of acupuncture practice. The course aims to develop competence in the practice of acupuncture as an alternative therapeutic modality and is designed primarily for western-trained medical practitioners, physiotherapists, nurses, osteopaths, chiropractors and other members of allied health-care professions. It also hopes to stimulate student's interest and involvement in research on basic and clinical aspects of acupuncture The programme of study includes clinical practicum.

On completion of the Part 1: Basic Acupuncture programme, students should be able to:
1. Describe the basics of Chinese Medicine Theories ;
2. Undertake simple differential diagnosis;
3. Analyse pain-related diseases ; and
4. Carry out basic Acupuncture treatment of pain related disorders.
On completion of the Part 2: Advanced Clinical Acupuncture programme, students should be able to:
- Apply the knowledge of Acupuncture theories of disease differentiation;
- Analyse clinical cases using acupuncture theories (e.g. Gynoecological disorders, Neurological disorders, Musculo-skeletal & Sports Injuries, and Internal disorders);
- Carry out skilful manipulations of acupuncture techniques to treat diseases; and
- Evaluate and conduct simple Acupuncture research work.

Teaching Methods
The main form of instructional delivery is by lectures, demonstrations and classroom-based practice, and supplemented by audio-visual materials, teaching aids, etc.
Mock Clinical observation and Clinical Practicum will be organized in Chinese Medicine Clinic of the school or a Chinese Medicine Hospital.
Assessment and Award
Part 1: Basic Acupuncture
Part 2: Advanced Clinical Acupuncture
Completion of Part 1 and Part 2 leads to Diploma in Clinical Acupuncture. Students who have completed one module of Part 1 can choose to exit the programme. Completion of one module will lead to a Certificate in Acupuncture.

Our programme is approved by the Physiotherapists Board as quotable qualification. Upon completion of our programme:
- 15 CPD points awarded by the Physiotherapists Board will be granted to students who are Physiotherapists. (Pending for approval)
- Physiotherapists may be eligible to apply for Accredited Acupuncture Physiotherapist.

The standard ‘Enrolment/Payment Slip’ is designed for students of award-bearing programmes or remaining programmes in a suite of programmes requiring continuing enrolment and it applies to most programmes.

Students should complete the “Enrolment/Payment Slip” which will be made available by relevant programme staff and return the slip to any HKU SPACE enrolment centre or post it to the relevant programme staff with appropriate fee payment.

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.
2. Cheque Or Bank draft
Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:
- bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
- or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard
Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.
4. Online Payment
Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment.
- In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
- Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
- HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
- For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
